Tanks on Tarawa

CHINA GAL, 1st platoon, c Co. 1 corps medium tank battalion

CHINA GAL is the first Medium Tank seen on the footage.
As claimed by Ed Bale, the tank does not have cans rack on the rear slope.
Note the support brackets welded on the turret and hull sides.

2nd Tank Battalion CP, post-battle footage, Tarawa.

CHINA GAL in the CP after the fight. Note how the guntube is depressed and the field bag on the fender like in the footage above. Both documents were certainly taken the same day. Source NARAII, courtesy of Oscar Gilbert.

On this after action shot, we can see two surviving tanks patroling along the beach.
Left is COLORADO and right is CHINA GAL.
